Delta CRJ Flips Inverted During Landing At Toronto Pearson

Eight Injured, No Fatalities In Bizarre Accident In High Winds

A Bombardier CL-600 Regional Jet CRJ-900LR operated by Endeavor Air as a Delta Connection flight traveling from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), Minnesota, experienced a collapse of the right main landing gear during arrival at Toronto-Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Ontario, and ended up flipping inverted on the runway.

In what has to be a minor miracle, there were no fatalities resulting from the accident but eight people were injured, three seriously. There were seventy-six passengers and four crew members on board.

Video footage of the accident sequence showed that on touchdown, the right main landing gear collapsed, causing a fire and the right wing to contact the ground. The wing dragged along the ground for about 3 seconds before the aircraft flipped over and came to rest in an inverted position. The fire was mostly contained by the airport emergency service personnel.

The tail surface and main gear were damaged from the impact and separated as well, and the left wing and nose gear remained attached to the airframe.

Video recorded by what sounds to be a passenger shows people being evacuated from the aircraft in a relatively calm and orderly manner by the crew. However, the person recording the video was understandably upset and expressing his shock with some colorful language.
