ANN's 'Who's Who' At Oshkosh: Dan Klopp

Introducing Staff, Stringers, Videographers, And People Who Make It All Work

Anyone who's ever been to Oshkosh knows that there are hundreds of events and activities as well as tens of thousands of people that descend (some quite literally) on Wittman Regional Airport in mid-summer. While we have a very hard-working and dedicated staff, ANN could not provide you with the extensive information we do without the help of some equally ... some might say more ... dedicated volunteers who give a week of their time to make sure you have the best possible coverage of the show. As we lead up to this year's edition of AirVenture, we'll be introducing you to the people that make all of that possible.

Dan Klopp: Videographer

With roots in music, creative writing and film history, Dan graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee with a BFA in Film. While there he served for four years as the Union Theater's film curator, bringing artists and a diverse independent and world cinema program to the Milwaukee area. He also taught classes in film production and alternative image acquisition processes.

Dan has also studied percussion for over 25 years. He performed in such groups as the University Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, and a variety of local surf rock, alt country western, and garage rock bands, most notably the trio Hi-Lonesomes, and the drums and guitar duo Boss Hoss. After an intensive study of digital audio editing, Dan began working at a commercial post-production company as a video editor and post-production supervisor. He also worked in film production first as an assistant cameraman, then camera operator, 2nd Unit DP, and director of photography on a variety of shorts, commercials and independent films.

Since 1998, Dan has been producing broadcast television commercials, public service announcements, social media videos, and short narrative films. He is an entrepreneur, filmmaker and new media professional, and has worked as a producer, cameraman, and editor for many online documentary and storytelling collectives. Currently, he is finishing a feature-length documentary film, Swim Jim Swim. It follows Jim Dreyer, a man who has set numerous world records swimming non-stop across all five of the North American Great Lakes.

Dan is a recipient of a Wisconsin Arts Board filmmaker fellowship and a Mary L. Nohl Fund fellowship for film and photography. His most recent book and exhibit, Motorcycles of Kerala, is a series of 4x5" Polaroids taken during an extensive trip to southern India. The Alma Center, a non-profit company that educates people on preventing domestic violence, commissioned him to photograph a book of portraits called, Men We Love.
