Observing ICAO Day For Air Tragedy Fatalities And Families

In observation of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) International Day for Air Crash Victims and their Families, the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) issued the statement below in reaffirming ALPA’s steadfast commitment to aviation safety and supporting those affected by aviation tragedies.

Statement by Capt. Jason Ambrosi, President of ALPA:

“On behalf of our 79,000 pilots, we extend our deepest condolences to all families who have lost loved ones in air disasters over the years and especially those whose grief is still raw after the recent PSA Flight 5342 tragedy.

“As we honor the memories of those who have perished, we also recognize our profound obligation to the families of the victims. Aviation safety is not merely a professional responsibility but a sacred trust. For more than 90 years, ALPA has been committed to ensuring that the recommendations from safety investigations are fully implemented to prevent similar tragedies.

“Today, we once again pledge that when the National Transportation Safety Board finalizes its investigations into recent accidents and makes their recommendations, ALPA will put its full force behind implementing them in order to prevent another family from such a devastating loss.

“We owe that to the families. We owe that to those who entrust us with their lives each and every time they board a flight. The airline pilot community pledges to continue working diligently to advance aviation safety and honor the legacies of those lost by ensuring such tragedies are never repeated.”

The ALPA was founded in 1931 and as the largest airline pilot union in the world it represents more than 79,000 pilots flying for 42 airlines in Canada and the United States.
