Diamond Delivers New European Katana To AA Austria

First DA20i Since Production Line Reopened Handed Over At HQ

Diamond Aircraft announced the delivery of the first new European-made DA20i Katana since the production line was reopened. It was handed over to Aviation Academy Austria in a special ceremony at the Diamond Aircraft headquarters in Wiener Neustadt on November 28, 2025.

This aircraft is the first of two ordered by AAA, and the second one is scheduled to be delivered in early 2026.

Oliver Karall, CEO of Aviation Academy Austria said, “We are thrilled to welcome the new DA20i Katana into our fleet. This aircraft perfectly aligns with our mission to provide state-of-the-art training solutions. Its combination of proven design and cutting-edge technology will allow our students to experience the very best in modern flight training. We look forward to adding the two new DA20i to our already existing fleet of seven DA20i, four DA40NG and two DA42NG-VI.”

The DA20i is a two-place single-engine piston aircraft that has been a steady and reliable performer in the flight training segment. Following a recent resurgence in demand by flight schools and private owners, Diamond decided to restart its production in Europe earlier this year.

This updated model features the Rotax 912 iSc3 Sport engine for modern efficiency and a Garmin G500TXi glass cockpit with advanced avionics, touchscreen interface, and improved situational awareness for the training environment of today. It also incorporates Diamond’s robust composite airframe that continues the company’s reputation for engineering excellence.

Jane Wang, Director of Sales, Marketing and Flight Ops at Diamond Aircraft Austria, added, “Relaunching production of the DA20i Katana – and now delivering the first unit in Europe – marks another exciting chapter for Diamond Aircraft and our customers. The DA20i blends tradition with innovation, making it an ideal choice for flight schools like AAA that are committed to shaping the next generation of pilots.”
