Aircraft Operators, Oil & Gas Industry Come Together In Malaysia

Fifth Annual Event Sponsored By AgustaWestland In Kuala Lumpur

Over 120 delegates from more than 15 countries attended AgustaWestland's 5th Oil & Gas Seminar held recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event focused on oil and gas industry helicopter operations, support and training developments in Asia and Australasia. The delegates (operators, service providers and authorities) were able to listen to briefings by aviation safety experts, helicopter operators, energy consultants and engine manufactures who shared their views on offshore operational safety, financial market trends, support and training.

Examples of "real-life" experiences of introducing and operating the AW139 helicopter in the offshore oil and gas support market were presented and discussed. The AW139 has, in only a few years, established itself as the leading helicopter in this market, outselling all other medium twin helicopters. The AW139's superior performance, cabin space and modern technology have proved popular with operators around the world. Almost 660 AW139 helicopters have been purchased so far by nearly 180 operators in over 50 countries and over 500 aircraft are already in service. More than one third of orders have been for the offshore oil and gas transport market.

As the AW139 achieves new operational milestones for offshore transport mission and expands its success across Asia and Australasia, AgustaWestland carries on the development of the 8-tonne class AW189 helicopter and the 4.5 tonne AW169, which are on schedule to obtain certification in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Part of the AgustaWestland Family of new generation helicopters together with the AW139, the AW169 and AW189 have quickly achieved significant sales success in the offshore market in the region as well as globally.

All three types from the Family possess the same high performance flight characteristics and safety features as well as sharing a common cockpit layout, design philosophy and maintenance/training concept. This commonality will allow more effective operations for customers operating helicopter fleets across the 4 to 8.5 tonne categories, setting new standards in helicopter fleet management.
