Universal Avionics Completes Flight Testing For New AHRS

TSO Package Has Been Submitted To The FAA

Universal Avionics has completed flight test activities for the new AHS-525 Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS). The TSO package for the AHS-525 is now in process of submittal to the FAA. All flight test activities have met or substantially exceeded FAA Technical Standard Order (TSO) requirements for performance. Additional testing for customer desired functions such as in-flight realignment are underway.

“We are very pleased with flight test progress with the new AHS-525, as it has performed at or beyond expectations,” said Paul Damschen, Universal Avionics’ Manager of Airworthiness and Product Management. “We expect it to exceed customer expectations, and our confidence has allowed us to start using the AHS-525 in IMC flight conditions already,” he added.

The stand-alone AHS-525 presents the superb reliability of Micro-Electromechanical (MEMS) technology needed to support NextGen flight decks. The AHS-525’s MEMS technology has all of the advantages of reliable solid-state technology, along with a compact/lightweight size, ease of alignment procedures, increased reliability over VGs and DGs, simplified retrofit installations, and reduced installation and operating costs.

Bringing renewed performance and confidence to operators, the AHS-525 is a cost effective solution for replacement of fragile mechanical “spinning” gyroscopes. The AHS-525 project completion date remains on schedule with certification and shipment expected in February 2013.
