"We still believe there's a way to divide this responsibility with the airlines, but until that agreement is met passengers deserve satisfaction on their claims so we will move unilaterally to settle their claims. It's time to get through the backlog."

Source: TSA Spokesperson Mark Hatfield, commenting on the agency's decision to make payments to 15,000 passengers who filed claims of losses or damage on bags given to the TSA for screening prior to airline flights.
