Airbus, Indonesia Partner On Aviation Environmental Program

Agreement Signed During ICAO World Aviation Forum

Airbus and the Indonesian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have launched a long-term partnership to reduce the impact of aviation on the environment. The agreement was signed during the ICAO World Aviation Forum on Aviation Partnerships for Sustainable Development in Montreal Canada. This program will cover a tailored offering of services and expertise.

Based on the industry four pillar strategy of technology (including sustainable fuels), efficient operations, infrastructure improvements and Market Based Measures, this long-term partnership will harness the full potential of Airbus’ latest generation aircraft, together with optimised operations, to minimise fuel burn and noise emissions. It will also review opportunities for capacity building in areas such as emissions data inventory and monitoring systems in preparation for the ICAO Global Market Based Measure implementation.

The Airbus “Sustainable Aviation Engagement Programme”, launched in 2015, has been established by Airbus to pilot and share with operators worldwide environmental best practices and performance improvement.

“We are very pleased to see the Sustainable Aviation Engagement programme taking shape with world leading airlines”, said Jean-Luc Taupiac, Airbus’ Head of Environment.” By working closely with our customers and building long-term partnerships, we offer them tailored solutions and expertise to meet their environmental objectives. The benefits unfolded with the winning combination of using latest aircraft technology, best aircraft operations, optimized Air Traffic Management and sustainable aviation fuels, really unlocks the full potential to minimize the environmental footprint.”

"Indonesia is committed to reducing the impact of aviation on the environment and integrate sustainability into all aspects of its growth," said Mr. Suprasetyo, Director General of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Indonesia. "The DGCA seeks to work with strategic partners and we welcome the opportunity to work closely with Airbus to demonstrate the step-change in environmental performance of the next generation of aircraft, with  significantly lower noise and carbon emissions.

"The learning derived from such collaboration will enable us to drive future improvements to contribute reducing the industry’s overall environmental footprint as demand for air travel grows in Indonesia."
