Aero-TV: GoAero Welcomes Competitors for Emergency Response Aircraft Challenge

Three-Year Competition Offers $2 Million in Prizes for Flyer Development

GoAero has opened team signups for its three-year competition aimed at developing new emergency response aircraft. The program, sponsored by a multitude of big aerospace names, offers a total of $2 million in rewards.

Existing emergency flyers provide much-needed relief to responders, but lack several crucial factors. Helicopters are costly to purchase and operate, especially when trying to find a pilot. Drones are accessible and practical for search missions, but are unable to complete air rescues like traditional aircraft.

That’s where GoAero comes in. The competition was created to develop the ‘world’s first’ compact, autonomy-based aircraft that is safe to fly, simple to operate, and effective for emergency rescue.

The three-year challenge is divided into three stages. The first will begin next year, allowing teams to arrange and digitally submit their innovations. The second is used to develop full or sub-scale prototypes. The last, held in the first quarter of 2027, will be a fly-off with three missions: maneuverability, adversity, and productivity.

The top prize for the competition is $1 million, with the remaining funding divided between each stage and flight mission. Teams will be offered mentorship, semi-monthly lectures, and discounted software through GoAero sponsors for the duration of the challenge.

“At GoAero, we’re trying to marshall all of the resources to help our teams so that they can really focus on building these aircraft that save lives,” stated Gwen Lighter, CEO and Founder of GoAero.

Over 114 teams from 44 different countries have already joined the competition.
