SoCal Columbia 400 Accident Victims Identified

Owner Of AZ Lancair Dealership Among Those Lost

The San Diego coroner's office has identified the three victims of last Wednesday's loss of a Columbia 400 aircraft, the first fatal accident involving a certified Lancair or Columbia airplane.

Barrett Lauchner, owner of Lancair Certified Southwest of Scottsdale, AZ and his wife Gina Marie were killed when the Columbia 400 they were in went down last Monday northeast of San Diego, CA. The accident also claimed the life of Terry James Boom, who was a demonstration pilot for Lauchner, according to the Arizona Republic newspaper.

A dog, believed to be the Lauchners', also died in the crash.

As was reported in Real Time by ANN, the three Phoenix-area residents were returning from attending the 50th anniversary of the Miramar Air Show at the United States Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego. The aircraft went down in the steep terrain of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, reportedly in cloudy and rainy conditions. 

Before going to work for Lauchner, Boom worked as a CFI for Scottdale's Southwest Flight Center. According to sources at Scottsdale Airport, Lauchner learned to fly as one of Boom's students.
