Nose Gear Collapses On Skywest Flight During Emergency Landing At San Antonio

Was En Route From Chicago To Monterrey, Mexico

The pilot of a Skywest airplane operating as United Express flying from Chicago to Monterrey, Mexico was forced to make an emergency landing at San Antonio, TX Sunday after problems arose with the plane's landing gear.

According to television station KHOU, the Embraer E175 had made a precautionary stop in Houston, TX because of poor weather conditions at Monterrey. It departed Houston and was preparing for landing at Monterrey, when the pilot noted an issue with the landing gear. The pilot made a decision to return to San Antonio and attempt an emergency landing there.

In a statement, Skywest said the flight, UA 5588, "diverted to San Antonio, Texas after the crew received a gear indication. Upon landing in San Antonio, the nose gear failed. The crew deployed the emergency slides and all on board safely deplaned. All 51 passengers and four crew are being transported to the terminal. There were no serious injuries reported.

"We have dispatched mechanics to inspect the aircraft and will conduct a full investigation into what may have caused the incident.

"We are working with our partner United to provide an additional flight to Monterrey and providing food and beverage for customers."
