Thunder Mustang Down Near San Antonio

Officials Say Pilot Fatally Injured In The Accident

The pilot of a Thunder Mustang (N7TR) that went down near San Antonio, TX was fatally injured, according to officials with the San Antonio Fire Department.

The wreckage of the plane was located Wednesday in an area known as Government Canyon west of San Antonio.

The scale P-51 replica was registered to Thomas Baber of Helotes, TX. It has not been confirmed if Baber was the pilot of the plane when it went down, nor if there was anyone else on board the two-place airplane.

Jim Crane is a neighbor of Baber's. He told television station KENS that he was watching the flight when the pilot executed an inside loop, but was unable to recover from the dive before impacting terrain. Crane said it was a maneuver he had watched his neighbor complete many times in the past.

SAFD officials said there was no possibility of any survivors based on the wreckage of the airplane.
