Couple Gains Unauthorized Access To AA Aircraft

Caused Delay In Departure From Philadelphia To Boston

An American Airlines flight from Philadelphia to Boston was delayed Sunday after a couple gained unauthorized access to the airplane.

The flight was scheduled to depart Philadelphia Sunday morning at 0800 local time. But two hours prior to the departure, a man and a woman were able to walk down the jetway and take their seats on the airplane, according to Fox News. The door to the jet bridge should have been locked.

The couple, who reportedly did not speak English, were discovered when normal boarding began. AA officials determined that they were on the correct flight, but the plane was cleared and searched. Ultimately, another aircraft was used for the flight "out of caution."

American said that the incident did not constitute a security breach because the couple had gone through the normal TSA checkpoint procedure.
