FreeFlight Systems Receives STC For Tailboom-Mounted Antennae

RA-4000/4500 Radar Altimeter Antennas Now Available For Tailboom Mounting On Bell 206L Helicopters

The FAA has granted STC approval to FreeFlight Systems for tailboom mounting of antennas for its RA-4000 and RA-4500 radar altimeters on Bell 206L, 206L-1, 206-L-3 and Bell206L-4 series helicopters.

Installing antennas for the FreeFlight Systems RA-4000 and RA-4500 systems on the helicopter tailboom frees space for mounting other equipment on the belly of the aircraft. Antennas compatible with the RA-4000 and RA-4500 systems are covered under the STC. With precision from 2,500 feet to ground level, each is designed for aircraft that operate over water or rough terrain, at nighttime, in close ground proximity and in other environments lacking visual cues to the ground or flight path.

The systems are available with the RAD-40 panel-mounted display, an optional NVG-compatible display, and the FTG-410 audio alert system. The RA-4000 offers a standard RS-422 interface while the RA-4500 includes an ARINC 429 interface for integration into EFIS and flight director systems. Both systems are certified to TSO-C87 and ETSO-2C87 and meet or exceed DO-160F and DO-178B Level C standards.

“The RA-4000 and RA-4500 radar altimeter systems are favored by helicopter operators worldwide for the proven combination of size, weight, performance, value and reliability,” said Tim Taylor, President and CEO of FreeFlight Systems. “The tailboom antenna mount STC gives Bell 206L owners who rely on our radar altimeters significantly greater flexibility when installing other belly-mounted equipment to fulfill a variety of missions.”
