ForeFlight, SiriusXM Introduce Satellite Aviation Weather Service

Weather And Other Key Information Available Using The SXAR1 Portable Receiver

Today ForeFlight and SiriusXM introduced SiriusXM Aviation weather service on the newest version of ForeFlight Mobile. ForeFlight’s latest release (version 8.1) is now available on the iTunes App Store.

Pilots using the ForeFlight app with the SXAR1 portable receiver can now access SiriusXM’s superior Aviation weather service, which will provide them with access to satellite delivered graphical weather and aviation information – including NEXRAD storm cell attributes, lightning strike locations, high-resolution composite radar plus high-resolution base reflectivity radar, and much more.

“We are pleased to add SiriusXM Aviation weather service to our ForeFlight Connect platform,” said Tyson Weihs, co-founder and CEO of ForeFlight. “Our customers are eager for a SiriusXM weather option. This integration delivers a high-quality, affordable, and portable SiriusXM weather solution with a subscription package tailored exclusively for ForeFlight.”

The SXAR1 portable receiver connects via Bluetooth to an Apple iPad or iPhone to wirelessly deliver SiriusXM Aviation Weather to the ForeFlight Mobile app.

The rechargeable SXAR1 receiver eliminates the need for wires in-flight. Its small size makes it easy to mount on the aircraft’s glare shield, or anywhere else that provides a line-of-sight view for its built-in antennas to receive SiriusXM satellite and GPS signals. The easy-to-use SXAR1 supports multiple legs of flying when fully charged, while providing superior situational awareness of weather and related conditions across the U.S.

“Pilots have been asking us to enable our weather service in ForeFlight’s market-leading app.  We’re excited to let them know it’s now available!” said Dave Wasby, Vice President of Aviation and Marine Services at SiriusXM. “With no line-of-sight restrictions, no altitude limitations, and complete coast-to-coast high-resolution coverage, pilots can benefit from important weather and related information starting before taxi all the way through landing.”

The SXAR1 portable receiver is now available at Sporty’s Pilot Shop as well as at siriusxm.com.  SiriusXM is currently offering a $200 savings to pilots who buy the SXAR1 and activate the ForeFlight subscription package.  Details are available at SiriusXM Aviation.
