Embraer On Subcontinent

Five Jets Go To India

Embraer has inked a contract with the Indian Government for the acquisition of five Legacy aircraft in a special Executive configuration. Four of the jets will replace the venerable Avros operated by the Palam-based Air HQ Communication Squadron of the Indian Air Force (IAF), which ferries the President, Vice-President and Prime Minister, among other dignitaries. The fifth Legacy will be operated by the Border Security Force (BSF), under the Home Ministry.

"Embraer is proud to have added the Indian Government to its customer base, thus contributing to increase cooperation between our two countries.

"The Legacy jet is renowned worldwide, and will certainly deliver safety, mission and cost efficiency to its new operator," said Mauricio Botelho, President and CEO of Embraer. "We are definitely committed to a long-term relationship with the Indian Government, envisaging not only its full satisfaction in respect to the aircraft now being acquired, but also looking forward to strengthening India's airborne operational capabilities in the future".

All five aircraft will be specially configured for authorities and government officials transportation. The jets will feature 14 seats, two separate compartments for senior authorities and their staff, and will be fitted with special self-protection suites.
