Boeing: July A Record Month For Airliner Orders

Planemaker Booked 324 Orders During July, The Most Ever For A Single Month

Boeing reports that it booked 324 orders for airliners in July, making it the best month for orders in the planemaker's history.

The orders came largely from the Farnborough Air Show. The Seattle Times reports that two large orders from Emirates and Qatar for a combined 200 777-9X airplanes at the show were largely responsible for the record month. Those deals had been previously announced, but were updated to firm orders last month.

Data released Thursday by Boeing also shows that Delta updated seven of the 787-8 Dreamliners it has on order to the larger 787-10s.

The paper reports that July pushes Boeing well ahead of rival Airbus in both bookings and deliveries for the year. Boeing has 823 airplanes on its order book so far for 2014, while Airbus has 705 net orders for the same period. Airbus has been hurt by some high-profile cancellations, including 70 A350XWBs that had been ordered by Emirates. Couple that with the loss of six orders for A380s from Skymark Airlines, and others, and Airbus is showing a net negative of 27 orders for the year so far.

The paper reports that Airbus may make up some of those losses when orders for the A330neo, announced at Farnborough, are firmed up by customers that signed letters of intent at the show.

Boeing also delivered 58 airplanes in July, bringing their YTD total to 400. Airbus has delivered 352 airliners through July, 2014.
