AD: Airbus SAS Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2019-13-01

PRODUCT: Certain Airbus SAS Model A330-200, A330-300, A340-200, and A340-300 series airplanes.

ACTION: Final rule

SUMMARY: This AD was prompted by a report that revealed the wheel axles of the main landing gear (MLG) were machined with a certain radius and a determination that the life limit for the affected wheel axles of the MLG must be reduced.

This AD requires an inspection to determine the part number and serial number of each MLG wheel axle and replacement of affected parts prior to exceeding the reduced life limits.

DATES: This AD is effective December 17, 2019.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD affects 29 airplanes of U.S. registry. Operators may incur the following costs in order to comply with this AD:

Inspection

  • Labor: 2 work-hours × $85 per hour = $170 per airplane.

On Condition Costs:

  • Labor: 16 work-hours × $85 per hour = $1,360 per airplane.
  • Parts: $40,000 (per part).
  • Cost per airplane: $41,360 (per part).
