FAA Approves Cabin Connectivity Upgrade For Gulfstream GV, GIV

Smart Cabin System Brings On-Demand Movies, Television To Customers In Flight

The FAA has approved the installation of the Gogo Business Aviation UCS 5000 smart cabin system on Gulfstream GV and GIV aircraft.

“This cabin connectivity and entertainment enhancement significantly enriches the passenger experience in the GV and GIV,” said Mike West, vice president, Product Support Sales and New Business Development, Gulfstream. “Most notably, passengers will have access to an in-flight entertainment service — Gogo Vision — that delivers regularly updated on-demand movies and television shows to any personal electronic device in the cabin.

“We have more than 700 GV and GIV operators, so it is very important for us to continually pursue upgrades that add value to those aircraft and ensure flying in them continues to be a superb experience.”

UCS 5000 interfaces with Iridium and SwiftBroadband systems. The new equipment’s smart router provides wireless service to multiple users with a single logon, manages multiple data networks and supports Gogo Text & Talk, a service that enables passengers to use their smartphones for calling and texting in flight with their own mobile number, in conjunction with Gogo’s ATG 4000 or ATG 5000 in-flight Internet system.

As a full-function media server, UCS 5000 provides access to the Gogo Vision library of approximately 200 movies and TV shows. This service is activated by purchasing a software key. Operators who elect to use Gogo Vision can update content manually using a USB drive or wirelessly through the Gogo Cloud service, which is available at select fixed-based operators nationwide.

The new equipment, which weighs less than 10 pounds, can be installed at Gulfstream’s company-owned service centers in Savannah and Brunswick, GA; West Palm Beach, FL; Westfield, MA; Dallas, TX; Appleton, WI; Las Vegas, NV; and Long Beach, CA.

Gulfstream is pursuing similar supplemental type certificates from the FAA to begin offering UCS 5000 to G550 and G450 aircraft in 2016.
