Veteran Flight Instructor Struck, Injured By Propeller

Was Exiting The Aircraft After Landing With A Student

It only goes to show that aviation can be very unforgiving of even a moment of carelessness. Veteran flight instructor Amelia Jayne was seriously injured on May 25th in Ann Arbor, MI, when she did something she'd likely done hundreds of times before ... stepped out of an airplane while the engine was running after flying with a student. This time, however, she was struck by the propeller.

In its initial report, the FAA calls Jayne's injuries "serious." It lists the aircraft as a Cessna 152 Aerobat N222UM.

Television station WXYZ reports Jayne is an instructor with Michigan Flyers. The school operates a fleet of four Cessnas from Ann Arbor Municipal Airport. Airport officials told the station that a medical doctor who was at the airport administered first aid to Jayne until rescue personnel could arrive.

The FAA and NTSB are continuing their investigations.
