Cincinnati Tuskegee Airmen Chapter To Launch Aviation Program

Anonymous Donor Gave $10,000 To Establish The Program

An anonymous donor has contributed $10,000 to the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen to establish a new aviation program for kids in the inner city.

Television station WCPO reports that the chapter will use the money to start with about a dozen youth in the region to begin to teach them what the need to know to be able to fly an airplane. Marvin Bryce Sr., who will serves as the chapter's youth aviation director, told the station that even if the kids decide that a career in aviation is not for them, they will have been exposed to opportunities in life that they might not otherwise have seen.

Bryce is also the president of Soaring Spirits Aviation, a nonprofit ministry the he founded to provide transportation to sick and dying patients to medical facilities free of charge.

James Shaw, the president of the Cincinnati chapter, said Bryce is exactly the right person to lead the youth effort. “He has the training, and he’s a pilot. That’s a great asset for our chapter. And he knows a lot of other aviation people in this city,” Shaw said.

The Cincinnati Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen was  founded in 1986 by Mr. Charles O. Southern with 9 initial members. Today, chapter membership has grown to over 60 men and women, 18 of whom are considered “Original” Airmen.
