Fatal GA Mishap In New Orleans

Two Die On Shores Of Lake Ponchatrain

Two people were killed Monday when their twin-Cessna went down at Lakefront Airport in New Orleans (LA).

Lakefront's interim director, Tanya Hernandez, identified those on board as Robert Sutherlin, an attorney who practices in New Orleans and Covington (LA), and Henry Billeaud, of Picayune (MS) an independent lighting contractor for filmmakers. She said the two were flying into New Orleans to pick up a flight instructor. Afterwards, they were to head for an upholstry shop in Texas.

Hernandez said she had been told that the pilot touched down, then asked to fly around and make another approach. But the airplane only got about 30 feet off the ground and crashed into a floodwall, Hernandez said.

The NTSB is on the case.
