Aero-TV: The Risen Superveloce’s Transatlantic Flight to AirVenture

A First-Person View of the “Impossible” Overseas Mission

This year at the Annual EAA Oshkosh AirVenture, Alberto Porto, CEO of Porto Aviation Group, and Robert Barnes, North American Sales Director, made headlines with their impressive transatlantic journey in the Porto Aviation Risen Superveloce.

Their adventure began with a departure from a small airport south of Milan, Italy. Powered by the new Rotax 916is, the pair successfully traveled through Stornoway, Scotland and across the Atlantic Ocean to Goose Bay, Canada. After some well-deserved R&R, they headed towards Wisconsin for customs and their final destination: Oshkosh.

The Porto Risen’s stats include an impressive cruise speed of 195 knots, consuming just 6.8 gallons per hour with 75% power. With a stall speed of 43 knots and a final approach speed between 65 and 70 knots, the Porto Risen offers a unique performance flight experience.

14 Risen aircraft have been delivered to U.S. customers, with several more under construction. The company is currently working to expand its presence in the U.S. and has selected an airport south of Salt Lake City as its first local hub for reassembly, maintenance, flight training, and testing.

Barnes highlighted the aircraft's competitive edge: “I can honestly say for the horsepower, normal cruise condition, we smoke just about everybody.”

Porto is currently cranking out just over one aircraft per month and is on track to deliver 14 total this year. The wait list sits around one-year long, which will only grow as the company name gains a broader reputation within the U.S. market.
