Astronautics Releases In-Flight Streaming Suite

AeroSync Allows Long-Range Data Uplink for Ambulance, SAR, and Special Helicopter Missions

Astronautics has released a new real-time data/video streaming suite at Heli-Expo 2022, aiming to provide an integrated, fast, and reliable data transmission system for helicopter operators.

The AeroSync Mission is a TSO-approved single-box solution that stores and routes data streams between aircraft and ground contacts throughout a mission, allowing for automatic retention and broadcast mission information. Astronautics intended the system as a supporting apparatus for air ambulance, law enforcement, SAR, and executive transport missions, an all-in-one solution to simplify flight, mission, and maintenance data for new and retrofitted aircraft.

“AeroSync serves multiple helicopter use cases where onboard Wi-Fi or wired internet connectivity enhances outcomes: whether it’s streaming real-time critical medical information between an onboard medical device and an awaiting hospital trauma team; routing video and location to ground control dispatch; or accessing a corporate server through a web-browser application,” said Matt Frei, Astronautics’ director of connected aircraft solutions. For the ambulance crews transitioning from radio-only communications and data relay, the change is a quantitative, futuristic leap. The ability to directly broadcast data streams, especially vital signs and patient information while en-route, is invaluable. The capability to ensure the information is transmitted securely and accurately, as well as providing connectivity for any passenger devices, is a core part of what makes AeroSync so attractive to operators.  In demonstrations, the system is connected to stream real time patient cardiac data with Philips' Tempus Pro AED and Monitor to show the enhanced continuity of care between field personnel and hospital professionals.

AeroSync's function as a hotspot is also helpful, allowing for updated weather and EFB information while far from base. “Adding the option for in-flight cabin connectivity adds a broadband powerhouse that connects up to 10 client devices, offers worldwide internet and affordable data services, and a Wi-Fi access point extending up to 400 feet from the aircraft for mission connection when on the ground and in the air," Frei said.
