USA To Host 2012 World Hot Air Balloon Championship

Bi-Annual Event Returns to Battle Creek, MI

A bid by the Balloon Federation of America to host the FAI Category I event was approved unanimously by the delegates attending the annual meeting of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale's Ballooning Commission (CIA) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The host city will be Battle Creek, MI.

This will be the 20th World Hot Air Balloon Championship and the 5th to be hosted by the USA. The championships are held every two years. Dates for the event have not yet been released.

The USA hosted the first two championships in 1973 and '75 in Albuquerque, NM, while Battle Creek, MI was the site for the 7th in 1985 and the 12th in 1995.

This year Battle Creek will also host the 2010 US National Championship on August 23-28.
