GoPro Pictures Itself In The UAV Market

Plans Line Of Aircraft Specifically For Use With Its Cameras

With many commercially-available UAVs built to accommodate a GoPro camera, it seems only natural that the camera manufacturer would look at developing a proprietary aircraft designed around its popular device.

The Wall Street Journal cites insider sources that say that GoPro will begin selling multi-rotor aircraft equipped with HD cameras next year in the $500-$1000 range.

The move comes as GoPro, which was one of the first to offer a wearable HD camera for first-person point of view videos, is seeing increased competition from other companies such as Sony. And while many UAVs are now built with mounting points for the lightweight HD cameras to be attached, the paper reports that some manufacturers may stop being so accommodating if they are competing with a proprietary product.
