HAI Seeks Members For UAS Committee

Newly Established Group To Focus On Unmanned Aircraft Systems

HAI is establishing a new committee dedicated to issues related to the growth of the market for small UAVs.

The association said in a news release that it has been monitoring the growth and expanded utilization of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). It is apparent that UAS use within low-level airspace in which helicopters currently operate will continue to grow, as will UAS use for missions normally performed by helicopters.

With these thoughts in mind, and because of HAI’s desire to ensure the safe and efficient introduction of UASs into this operating environment, we have decided to establish a new HAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems Committee to assist the HAI Board of Directors and staff with this initiative.

Accordingly, HAI is seeking members for this new UAS Committee. The association says it believes that helicopter operators are the most qualified segment of aviation to address these issues and subsequently operate UAS vehicles within the vertical-reference environment. They said it is in the community's best interest and in the interest of the association's members that HAI has input into shaping the development of this expanding technology.
