Airborne-Unmanned 04.04.17: FAA UAS Event, DJI Offers ID Plan, Wynne Preps XPO

Also: Sky-Futures and Bristow, SpaceX Drone Ship, Seagull USV

The Second FAA UAS Symposium, the first to feature the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International as a pivotal partner, is now history.

In addition to some well-crafted sessions, panels and discussions, the event boasted an SRO crowd that often required the hosting facility to add chairs to many of the more popular events. ANN scored an interview with FAA Administrator Michael Huerta, who started the event off with some interesting pronouncements... that all the work heretofore conducted to the get the Unmanned community to where it is right now was, ‘the easy stuff’ and then added some stats that provided a strong dose of reality to the assemblage... that there were now over 770,000 drone registrations... along with some 37,000 drone plots on the FAA Registry. DJI has proposed an electronic identification framework for UAS that would allow authorities in the United States to identify drone owners when necessary while also respecting their privacy. “DJI understands that accountability is a key part of responsible drone use, and we have outlined a proposal that balances the privacy of drone operators with the legitimate concerns authorities have about some drone operations,” said Brendan Schulman, DJI Vice President of Policy and Legal Affairs. At the FAA UAS Symposium, even when dealing with large crowds and Unmanned tech experts, AUVSI’s President Brian Wynne, was already prepping for THE major event in the Unmanned tech world... XPONENTIAL. ANN’s Jim Campbell spent a little time getting Wynne’s thoughts about the event coming up this May 8-11. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
