GAMA Lauds US-EU Trade Agreement

Exempts Civil Aerospace Goods From Tariffs

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association praised the trade agreement reached by the U.S. and the European Union that was announced on July 27 that provides for tariff-free treatment of civilian aircraft and aerospace parts and components.

President Donald Trump and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met in Scotland where they finalized the deal that includes zero-for-zero tariffs on all aircraft and parts as well as certain chemicals, generics, semiconductor and agricultural equipment, natural resources, and raw materials.

James Viola, President and CEO of GAMA issued the following statement about the agreement:

“We commend the Trump Administration and EU Commission officials for working together to support the civil aerospace supply chain and foster the health and growth of the aerospace industry. The global success of the general aviation manufacturing industry drives innovation, enhances safety and strengthens economic opportunity.

“This deal, along with the previously announced US-UK Economic Prosperity Deal, will help provide stability for the industry and drive competitiveness. We are grateful that the Trump Administration has acknowledged the value of a zero-tariff environment for civil aerospace with these trading partners and urge the Trump Administration to further support for the Agreement on Trade in Civil Aircraft with other trading partners.”

GAMA is an international trade association representing more than 150 leading manufacturers of general aviation airplanes, rotorcraft, engines, avionics, components, and related services. Members also operate repair stations, FBOs, pilot and maintenance training facilities and manage fleets of aircraft. The organization promotes a better understanding of all general aviation activities and the importance of the role these segments play in economic growth, opportunities, and travel.
