Bombardier Selling Rotax (and Rec Products Div) To... Bombardier Family

There's been something of a major realignment at Bombardier over the last week. In a move seen by some pundits as an attempt to "separate its profitable business from its not so profitable business," Bombardier Inc. announced that it was selling its recreational products business in order to "bolster finances and focus on core operations."

Selling off its more profitable business will give Bombardier a lot of liquidity it was lacking in a "down" economy though sources indicate that the recreational products divisions will now get a chance to "shine" in ways that they haven't in quite a while.

Interestingly; the Bombardier family is maneuvering itself to be the new owner of the recreational products division, which also includes products like Sea-Doo and Ski-Doo recreational vehicles. The Bombardier family owns some 22% of Bombardier's shares, and a bit over 60 per cent of the voting rights (which could have made a sale to any other party quite troublesome...).

Bombardier saw losses of some 1 Billion dollars in the last quarter of the year though the sale should net corporate about $1.5B. We'll have more information on this story shortly...
