ICAO Warns About Fraudulent 'World Aviation Promo' Email Advisory

Spam Message Features ICAO, IATA Logos

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has identified a spam email in circulation which advises recipients that they are million dollar prize winners of a fraudulent “World Aviation Promo” contest.

The spam email PDF attachment prominently features the logos of ICAO and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), identifies the address of the World Aviation Promo office as being the ICAO Asia-Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok, Thailand, and contains a message signed with a forged signature of IATA CEO and Director General, Tony Tyler.

Recipients of the fraudulent emails are encouraged not to open the attached PDF in light of virus risks, and to immediately delete, without opening, any email message with the subject heading “Confidential & Urgent (About Your IATA Award Prize).”
