Airborne 12.02.19: EAA v 'BeerVenture', DC Lockdown, S-64 Air Crane

Also: Flight Design SB, Airport v Rabbits?, WAI’s 31st Conference, ICAO Council Leadership

If you've been to AirVenture, you've probably noticed the party tent near the entrance advertising cold beer and servers in bikinis.

The "Beer Venture" business has been something of a thorn in the side of EAA, which has been in discussions with brothers Carl, Dean and Steven Sosnoski. Those escalated when EAA filed a lawsuit claiming trademark infringement, unfair competition, trademark dilution and trademark counterfeiting. EAA’s Dick Knapinski said the talks have been "rather amicable", and that "the filing is a legal step to make sure (the discussion) stays on track, so it doesn't drop through the cracks. We fully expect to have a settlement." Of course, GA took the initial blame for this one but further investigation seems to indicate that media reports on this issue... were premature... again. The White House and the Capitol were placed on "Restrictive Access" for a short time last week when a mysterious "blob" was seen on radar at the Capitol Police Command Center. Media reported that a suspected aircraft was seen just south of the National Mall, and military aircraft were scrambled to respond to the potential threat. Erickson has delivered a massive K7 S-64 Air Crane helicopter to the Korean Forest Service (KFS) -- and it was no small effort to transport this rotary winged behemoth to the other side of the world. On Friday, November 22nd, the K7 aircraft was loaded onto an equally massive Antonov An-124 out of Medford, Oregon, Erickson's manufacturing facility. The S-64 was placed in S Korea since it was considered one of the best firefighting aircraft available. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
