Aero-TV: Light Sport Fractional?-Aviation Access Project Tackles LSA ‘Ownership'

Another Fractional Concept Comes to Aviation... This Time, To The LSA Market

There have been a great number of interesting, even innovative, attempts to get pilots into airplanes... either as owners, renters, part-owners or the like. The latest wave of alternate ownership concepts all seem to revolve around some measure of "Fractional Ownership..." and the latest endeavor is clearly aimed at the entry level LSA market.

Called the Aviation Access Project, the program claims to encompass five "components."

Component 1 - Establishment of very friendly, customer-centric Flight Centers at small airports across the country. The Flight Center is the physical location of the local Community of Aviators that can congregate and be involved in a fun and supportive network. We welcome EAA chapters, Alpha Eta Rho fraternity chapters, and other pilot groups that want a home, etc. No more FBO Alien Stare…you are Family, now.

Component 2 – There will be aircraft of different types, but the foundation will be two-seat light sport category airplanes of modern cool and sleek designs. There will eventually be refurbished or new 4-seat “move-up” airplanes provided for shared ownership for appropriately-certificated pilots.

Component 3 – At the Flight Center, we use proven and well-developed Shared Ownership methodology to allow pilots to purchase an quarter/eighth/sixteenth share in these aircraft, lowering the cost of ownership to very low levels. Aircraft are expensive, so it just makes sense to share, especially if it is professionally managed on behalf of the partners. All share owners pay a monthly maintenance fee that covers all recurring costs except fuel. And there are no hourly charges.

Component 4 – Provide a streamlined, sensible Flight Training program in the owner’s aircraft, to Sport Pilot level, all covered in the price of the share.

Component 5 – Provide a network of Flight Centers, promoting Community, Camaraderie, Celebration, Advancement, Safety, Purpose, and Fun.
