FAA Grants Re-Entry License To Inversion

Second Company Approved For Part 450 License

Inversion announced it has received a Part 450 Reentry License from the FAA Commercial Space Transportation division (FAA-AST) for its Ray reentry vehicle. That makes Inversion just the second company to gain such licensure under Part 450.

Securing a Part 450 reentry license is a long and rigorous process which outlines the launch and reentry regulatory requirements for commercial space transportation. Inversion has worked diligently to meet those stringent requirements, and its transparency, testing, and collaboration with the FAA were critical in overcoming the challenges and demands of the process.

The Ray spacecraft will launch on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 as an element of the Transporter-12 Rideshare mission. Ray is a low-cost, fully-autonomous reentry vehicle developed by Inversion to deliver goods and equipment to the most difficult-to-reach spots on Earth such as remote islands, uninhabited mountain areas, or the middle of the ocean within 20 feet of its target.

Collin Corey, Head of Regulatory Licensing at Inversion explained, “A core principle of Inversion is maintaining an open, transparent relationship with regulators. From day one, Ray was designed to meet or exceed all regulatory requirements, which we were able to do thanks to our holistic and vertically integrated approach to product development. This re-entry license allows us to proceed with our planned re-entry operations after launch, bringing us closer to our goal of offering delivery in minutes, anywhere on Earth.”
