Gulfstream Next-Gen Sets Speed Record

Makes a ~7,200 nm Sprint from Texas to Riyadh Under 14 Hours

Gulfstream announced the newest milestone for their new G600 and G700 when they added another international city-pair speed record on a flight between Houston, Texas, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Using sustainable aviation fuel in both, as well as offsetting their carbon usage to reach neutrality, Gulfstream was able to demonstrate the exceptional versatility their business jets offer customers and operators.

The G700 made the run in 13 hours and 40 minutes, cruising at a speed of mach 0.87. The total flight set a distance record for the G700, flying 7,171 miles. It made another record on its return trip, flying from Riyadh to Savannah, Georgia in 13 hours and 55 minutes, while cruising at an average speed of mach 0.875. While pushing the limits in cruise, it was able to reach mach 0.89 when flying up to 51,000 feet.

Its smaller sibling, the G600, made a similar trip, when it departed Washington, D.C. and flew 6,146 nautical miles to Riyadh at mach 0.88 with a total duration of 11 hours and 39 minutes, also a city-pair record. On its return trip, the G600 trekked from Riyadh to New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport, a 5,915 nm trip that took just 4 minutes under 13 hours at a speed of mach 0.85.

The flights are a solid proof of concept for gulfstream, emphasizing the long-legged nature of their G700 and G600 aircraft. For on-the-go business needs, the freedom to create their own nonstop flights from middle America to the Middle East could be the decisive factor in closing the right deal at the right time. Gulfstream president Mark Burns emphasizes the constant record-setting nature of these city-pair flights and their ability to showcase the strengths of his aircraft.

"The G700 is the most spacious, best-performing aircraft in the business -jet industry, and we look forward to its entry into service, and for the G600, our customers are seeing firsthand what the aircraft can do for them, and its popularity continues to grow around the world."
