Baby Doing Fine After Being Found In Airliner Trash

Newborn Was Discovered In Manila On Gulf Air Aircraft

Ground personnel processing a Gulf Air airliner for a return trip from Manila to its originating airport in Bahrain on Sunday discovered a newborn baby in a trash can aboard the aircraft.

Security officials at the airport rushed the baby, found covered in blood and wrapped in tissue paper, to an airport clinic, where he was cleaned and given a bottle. The New York Daily News reports that airport nurse Kate Calvo said he was healthy, had good vital signs, and doctors said he would be OK.

Officials are now seeking the passenger on the plane who apparently went into labor enroute and delivered the child in the airplane lavatory, stuffing the newborn in the lavatory trash.

Authorities said if they can locate someone from the immediate family, the baby will be returned to them. Otherwise, he will be put up for adoption.
