Banner Tow Plane Down In Miami, FL

Went Into The Ocean Off Miami Beach Saturday

A banner tow plane went down in the Atlantic Ocean off Miami Beach, FL Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses said the plane went down about 2:30 pm EDT, according to television station WPLG. The pilot was rescued after the accident by two men from Boucher Brothers Management who were operating personal watercraft.

Elias Hanono was one of those responding to the accident. Hanono said the pilot told him that the "engine just cut off, but he had plenty of gas." The pilot suffered a head injury, but was conscious, he said.

Witness Victor Valderrama said that the plane did not make any noise, but he smelled gas and then turned to see the plane "flipping around."

The pilot, who was not named, was taken to Mount Sinai Medial Center for treatment of his injuries. The Coast Guard participated in the rescue operation.
