Reports: Delta Pilot Socks Customs Agent Over Missing Wheelchairs

Yep, You Read That Right... Sigh

To say things are probably a bit tense right now around New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport would be an understatement, especially in the wake of the revelation 10 days ago of an alleged terrorist plot to plant explosives along a fuel line that supplies the extremely busy airport. But it wasn't terror concerns that prompted a Delta Air Lines pilot to sound off this weekend.

New York media sources report Edward Smythe allegedly punched a federal agent in the back Saturday night, after Smythe's flight arrived from Jamaica.

The US Customs agent apparently tried to intervene in a heated argument between Smythe and an airline worker over two wheelchairs the pilot said should have been provided for passengers deplaning from his flight.

Airport officials said Smythe hit the agent in the back, causing him to fall and bruise his knee.

Smythe was charged with assault, resisting arrest and harassment following the tussle, said a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Delta has also suspended the pilot, pending further action.
