Hot Air Balloon Down In Texas

Sixteen People Fatally Injured Saturday Morning

A hot air balloon with 16 people on board reportedly went down near Lockhart, TX Saturday morning. All 16 on board have been fatally injured, according to multiple media reports, including CNN.

There are few details about the accident. One source with the Texas Department of Public Safety said that they believe the balloon contacted power lines and caught fire, but that has not been confirmed. The TDPS called it the "preliminary working theory."

According to a news release posted to Facebook, the Caldwell County Sheriff said that then first responders arrived at the scene it was apparent that a fire reported as an automobile accident was the basket portion of a hot air balloon.

No details have been released about the identities of the people on board. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
