Boeing Plans To Boost 767 Production

Will Increase Output By 25 Percent In 2017

To fill a major order placed by FedEx Corp., Boeing says it will crank up assembly of 767s by 25 percent in 2017.

The door-to-door delivery company recently ordered 50 of the airplanes, and to meet that demand, Boeing said Wednesday that it would increase production to 2.5 767s per month, according to a report from Reuters. In an internal memo, Boeing VP and general manager Brad Zaback said "We are confident the market will support a long-term future for the 767."

Boeing currently produces 1.5 767s per month. That will grow to two per month in the first quarter of next year.

Boeing is also increasing the production rate of its 737 and 787 airliners, but slowing the 747 production line.

Boeing said that despite analysts’ predictions that it will need to cut its 777 production rate as it shifts to the 777X, it has no plans to reduce the number of 777s coming off the assembly line.
