AD: RECARO Aircraft Seating GmbH & Co. KG

AD NUMBER: 2019-08-01

PRODUCT: Certain RECARO Aircraft Seating GmbH & Co. KG (RECARO) Model 3510A and 3510D passenger seats.

ACTION: Final Rule; request for comments

SUMMARY:  This AD requires modification and re-identification of all affected RECARO model passenger seats.

This AD was prompted by an analysis that the affected RECARO model passenger seats contain a seat pan assembly design that can trap a person using the seat to assist during an emergency evacuation.

DATES: This AD is effective May 21, 2019. Comments must be received by June 20, 2019.

COST: The FAA estimates no aircraft seats installed on airplanes of U.S. registry. Operators may incur the following costs in order to comply with this AD:

  • Install the placard to re-identify P/N (All Series) Labor: 0.1 work-hours × $85 per hour = $8.50. Parts: $27. Cost per seat: $35.50
  • Series 383, 384, 389, 390, 392, 527, 592, 911, 942 Modify seats per RECARO SB No. 3510-25-609. Labor: 0.2 work hours × $85 per hour = $17. Parts: $12. Cost per seat: $29.
  • Series 377 & 381 Modify seats per RECARO SB No. 3510-25-752. Labor: 0.4 work hours × $85.00 = $34. Parts: $477. Cost per seat: $511.
  • Series 330, 347, 349, 364, and 549 Modify seats per RECARO SB No. 3510- 25-753. Labor: 0.4 work hours × $85 per hour = $34. Parts: $546. Cost per seat: $580.
