Hollywood Plans Another Studio in Space

Space 11 Unveils Plans for Orbital Film Location

The battle for market supremacy in space continues, and a new front is seeing competition: Entertainment studios in low-Earth orbit.

Space 11, the parent company of future reality tv show "Galactic Combat", has found its commercial partner to build its space station film studio. Working with Voyager Space company Nanoracks, Space 11 hopes to complete a free-flying space station that will function as a soundstage in zero gravity. The announcement follows similar news from another business, Space Entertainment Enterprise, set to co-produce an upcoming Tom Cruise Movie. Their partner in station engineering is Axiom Space, another NASA contractor who has built modules on the ISS.

Space 11, like similar entertainment outfits, is a recent addition to the new space race. The company hit the scene in April of 2021, launching alongside its film and television studio subsidiaries. Space 11 believes viewers will love high-concept, zero-gravity productions on its Space 11 City, the hub for all things entertainment above. Their zero-gravity combat arts competition, Galactic Combat, was the first concept to catch the world's attention, wherein 40 fighters from around the world will come together to perfect the art of free-floating mixed martial arts. The project will be the start, says Space 11, eventually offering photography, sports, even soundstage work on the station. Exact specs have not been disclosed, but its size should be impressive, if it will accommodate all the personnel needed for an active film set. The module has been named the S11S, and is said to function as a live venue with accommodation and sleeping quarters aboard.

“Exploring space opportunities has been quite eye-opening,” said Iervolino in a statement. “We are in discussions with Nanoracks because they are practical and have unmatched experience in taking unique ideas and developing them into real space programs. Our gradual approach will allow us to explore thrilling in-space media opportunities possible today while also working towards our long-term vision of hosting entertainment events on a customized space station platform dedicated to our viewers.”

“I have always thought outside the box, and I’m thrilled to take these first steps to bring sports entertainment to space,” added Lewis. “We’re looking to develop a new market of space-based entertainment and media services that will challenge our production creatively, physically, logistically, and technically. Our viewers expect the best we look forward to producing concepts never dreamed of before. I’m pleased to be exploring these opportunities alongside Space 11 and Nanoracks.”
