Air Lease Named As Unidentifid 737 MAX Buyer

Draft Orders From The Leasing Company Worth About $6 Billion

Industry sources are saying that Air Lease is one of Boeing's as-yet-unnamed buyers for the re-engined 737 MAX airplane to the tune of about $6 billion.

Reuters reports that the leasing company is set to acquire 60 of the latest version of the workhorse 737, but the orders are not yet firm. The sources asked not to be named because final details of the deal is still being worked out.

The deal will possibly be announced in July at the Farnborough Air Show. The Wall Street Journal says that the deal is close to completion. The move comes despite criticism from Air Lease CEO Steven Udvar-Hazy for both Boeing and Airbus for re-engining their single aisle jets rather than completely redesigning them.

Speaking of the re-engined A320neo ... Air Lease also has a pending provisional order for 36 of the upgraded Airbus airliners, and will likely order 16 more in January of next year.
