Co Pilot Arrested With Gun

Northwest Copilot Didn't Make it to the Cockpit

We've gotten some reports that, at a quarter before six yesterday morning, LaGuardia security x-rayed the flight bag of Robert B. Donaldson, 43, a Northwest pilot, who was on his way to right-seat Flight 1191 to Detroit.

The x-ray revealed a 9mm Taurus semi-automatic handgun. It was loaded, too.

Donaldson has a permit to carry a concealed handgun in his native Michigan, but that permit is not in effect in New York, or in the FAA's jurisdiction; and Police of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey arrested Donaldson, who was charged with three firearms counts. He could face fifteen years in prison for carrying that pistol.

Northwest, ALPA, and everybody else is declining comment, so far. No one is saying just how he might have gotten into New York, with that gun, either...
