AMA Drone Report 03.14.19: DRL Update, External Markings, DJI Canada

The Drone Racing League (DRL)  has announced a new streaming partnership with Twitter and broadcast agreement with NBC and NBC Sports (NBCSN) to air the 2019 DRL Allianz World Championship Season.

The series will premier Sunday, August 11, 2019 at 2pm ET on NBC and Twitter. Twitter is collaborating with DRL to expand into robotic sports and share non-stop drone racing action on Twitter for the first time. DRL's partnership with NBC and NBCSN will offer racing fans the opportunity to watch more than 44 hours of DRL coverage on NBC and NBCSN. For the first time ever, DRL will feature pro drone racing content concurrently on all screens, including mobile phones, tablets, PCs, and TVs, immersing fans worldwide into thrilling FPV (First Person View) action. The Small UAV Coalition has filed comments in support of the FAA’s Interim Final Rule requiring sUAS to display its unique registration number on its external surface. The Coalition supported the FAA’s original registration requirement and agrees with the FAA that the minimal cost to display an external marking is far outweighed by the safety and utility of such an identifier. The requirement became effective on February 25. DJI is declaring that nine of its drone models will comply with the latest Transport Canada regulations for advanced drone operations in controlled airspace. This allows DJI customers to continue using their preferred drones in these operations after June 1, when Transport Canada’s new regulatory framework for civilian drone operations takes effect across Canada.
