FAA Assistant Administrator For NextGen To Speak At NBAA2014

Edward Bolton Jr. To Present Roadmap For NextGen Development

Edward L. Bolton Jr., the assistant administrator for NextGen at the FAA, will be a featured speaker at second day Opening Session of NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA2014), which runs Oct. 21 to 23 at the Orange County Convention Center, in Orlando, FL.

This will be the first industry event at which Bolton (pictured), whose office is responsible for leading the modernization of the nation’s airspace through implementation of the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen), will provide a roadmap for further NextGen development.

“We are pleased that Assistant Administrator Bolton has agreed to address NBAA2014 attendees,” said Ed Bolen, NBAA president and CEO. “The modernization of the nation’s aviation system to a NextGen one that is based on satellite technology, and incorporates digital systems and advanced procedures, is designed to ensure safer and more efficient air travel, so his remarks will be of great interest to everyone.”

Bolen noted that NBAA has been working closely with the FAA for some time to ensure that NextGen meets the needs of business aviation. “NextGen modernization is a high priority for NBAA and its Members, so the Association has staff representation on all the major NextGen government-industry working groups,” Bolen said. “We value our collaborative relationship with the FAA, and believe that, working together, we can help make implementation of NextGen work for the aviation industry, and the country as a whole.”

Bolton directs more than 900 federal employees and oversees NextGen’s $1 billion annual budget. He joined the FAA in September 2013, following a distinguished career with the U.S. Air Force, where most recently he held the rank of major general and the position of deputy assistant secretary for budget in the office of the assistant secretary for financial management and comptroller.

He also served as commander of the 45th Space Wing and director of the Eastern Range at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, where he oversaw a $5 billion budget and more than 20 successful spacelift, shuttle, test and range missions.

In addition, Bolton served as the deputy director for systems integration and engineering and as the principal deputy to the chief operating office where he established policy for space, cyber, and information operations and oversaw development of a cyber-career field as director of space and cyber operations in Washington, DC.

A level III program manager, he directed the Satellite and Launch Systems and the Space Launch and Range Systems program offices at the Space and Missile Systems Center at Los Angeles Air Force Base in California.
