Arrested After Checking Into An Upscale Hotel In Fernandina Beach, FL
The woman with a history of boarding flights without a ticket has done it again, this time flying from Minnesota to Jacksonville, FL, and even checking into an upscale hotel in a nearby beach community.
Marilyn Jean Hartman has attempted to board planes without a ticket in the past, sometimes successfully. But she has apparently moved her act from the west coast to the east. Nassau County, FL Sheriff Bill Leeper said Hartman said when she was arrested that she had flown to Jacksonville without a ticket, though neither the airline or departure airport were reported.
CNN reports that once she got to Jacksonville, she was asked by a shuttle bus driver for the Omni Hotel in Fernandina Beach, FL if she was another person going to the hotel. Hartman said yes, got on the bus, and checked into the hotel under the other person's name, but using her own credit card. She was found out when the actual guest arrived and attempted to check in to the hotel. She reportedly bolted from the room, and hid for the night in another room that was under renovation.
In the past, Hartman has pleaded no contest to stowing away on flights. She would not say how she did it, because "I don't want to help the enemy," she said after being released on two years probation in Los Angeles for a similar act.
Hartman appeared in court in Nassau County, FL on Tuesday, facing two felony fraud charges and one misdemeanor trespassing charge. Bail was set at $50,000. It is also unclear how she got to Minnesota from California in the first place.
