Solar Impulse 2 Lands In Lehigh Valley

Flight From Dayton Took Just Under 17 Hours

Bertrand Piccard landed Solar Impulse 2 (Si2) at Lehigh Valley International Airport, PA Wednesday night at 2049 EDT.

Piccard had taken off from Dayton International Airport, in Ohio Wednesday morning at 0402 EDT. The flight covered 564 nautical miles in 16 hours and 47 minutes at an average speed of 33.5 knots. During the flight, the plane reached a maximum altitude of 15'000 feet.

Solar Impulse 2 (Si2) is attempting to achieve the first ever Round-The-World Solar Flight using only solar energy to power the airplane. The goal of the project is to demonstrate how modern clean technologies can achieve the impossible.

As soon as possible, weather permitting, André Borschberg will make the short hop to New York City, completing the crossing of the United States before the aircraft heads out over the Atlantic Ocean to complete the circumnavigation.
