FANS STC For Gulfstream Aircraft Expected Second Quarter 2014

Clay Lacy Aviation On A Clear Path To Certifying A FANS Solution For The GIV, GIVSP And GV

Universal Avionics announces that its Authorized Dealer, Clay Lacy Aviation (CLA), is on a clear path to installation and certification of the UniLink UL-801 Communications Management Unit (CMU) to provide Future Air Navigation System (FANS) 1/A+ capabilities for the Gulfstream GIV and GIVSP aircraft.

Installation in the initial certification aircraft began in January 2014, with Supplemental Type Certification (STC) expected late Second Quarter 2014. An amendment to the STC for the GV will immediately follow initial certification, along with application for EASA certification.

The FANS aircraft installation includes Universal Avionics’ UniLink UL-801 CMU, UNS-1Espw Flight Management System (FMS) and CVR-120R Cockpit Voice Recorder for FANS data link message recording. The installation of this package also includes Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Contract (ADS-C) functionality. In addition, Universal Avionics’ UniLink UL-800/801 CMU is provisioned for EUROCONTROL’s Link 2000+ Program and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out.

“The cost of non-compliance to long range business jets is significant, affecting routing, flight time and fuel burn,” said Robert Clare, Universal Avionics’ Director of Sales. “Operators may experience challenges flying within the North Atlantic Track System (NATS) if the aircraft is not equipped for FANS capabilities, such as being routed to lower altitudes, causing a considerable increase in fuel burn,” he added. “Operators who choose to equip early will realize the benefits long before the compliance date of published mandates.”

“We’re proud to offer this revolutionary technology to Gulfstream owners and their crewmembers that expect and deserve only the best,” said Jim Lauer, CLA’s Director of Avionics. “There are currently over 700 GIV, GIVSP and GV aircraft that will be able to take advantage of this new technology that will afford aircraft owners greater safety and lower operating costs,” he added.

CLA plans to install and sell the FANS STC solution for the Gulfstream GIV, GIVSP and GV at the company’s Van Nuys, California (USA) facility, as well as make it available to Universal Avionics Authorized Dealers.
