Overland FBO, Community Welcome Williston Care Flight

Ribbon Cutting Greets First Local Air Ambulance Service In 2 Years

Overland Aviation, the FBO at Williston Basin International Airport (KXWA) in Willison, North Dakota, partnered with the City, CHI St. Alexius Health Williston, and Care Flight to officially welcome Williston Care Flight to the airport and the region in a public ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 17.

The ceremony was attended by members of the local public featuring remarks by Williston Fire Department Chief Matt Clark and Williston Care Flight Vice President Kyle Black. There was also entertainment, refreshments, and an opportunity for people to check out the interior of Williston Care Flight’s operations and mission.

Corey Johnson, Assistant Fire Chief with WFD said, “The launch of Williston Care Flight is a tremendous accomplishment. Our community was presented with a challenge, and through the great partnership that was created between Care Flight and the City of Williston, we all rose up to face this problem head-on.”

Black said, "An incredible team effort has taken place over the last 18 months to find a solution for ensuring that air medical transportation operations will be available for the community. A really big kudos is due to the Williston City Commission, the Fire Department and the Hospital leadership team. This truly has been a collaborative effort for the betterment of the community and the surrounding region."

Tanner Overland, President and Founder of Overland Aviation said, "We’re thrilled to support this vital partnership in bringing locally-operated essential services back to the region. It's a powerful example of what’s possible when organizations unite around a shared commitment to providing reliable, lasting services to our community for years to come."

The Williston area had been without a locally-operated aeromedical transportation service since 2023, so the partnership was key to reestablishing the essential service. Williston Care Flight is based out of Overland Aviation, which provides aircraft services such as ground handling, hangar and office space, and fuel supplied by Avfuel. Williston Care Flight arranges for the pilots and maintenance crews and medical personnel are staffed by the Williston Fire Department.

Overland Aviation is a full-service FBO with services for both general and business aviation aircraft along with refueling, maintenance, flight training, air charters, scenic air tours, and aerial patrol. Overland has been operating at XWA since 2011.
